It is open to anyone aged 18 to 30 who are looking for additional training to advance their careers through a range of training options. It is a one time award so applicants should make sure they have done some research and are ready to go for it.

There is support on the Printing Charity website through every step of the application process including tips to get ready to apply. These include chatting about plans with a trusted manager or mentor and researching full details about the course. They also explain what the judges are looking for when applying for a Rising Stars award. Ian Pollock, Director at Mark Andy UK Ltd says he looks for passion for the industry; “Communicate in your own words what you are looking to achieve with your career. No pre-scripted answers that have been clearly coached.”

Emma Fells, two-time Rising Star Award judge and VP Client Engagement at HH Global says she looks for “Someone who has really thought about how this money can benefit them in their current and future roles. The applicant must have investigated internal options within their business first, as many larger businesses offer great training programmes which applicants do not think to explore.”

Successful applicants will then have a friendly video interview so the judges can hear about how the training will help the applicant achieve their career dreams. From there the next stage is a celebration evening at the House of Lords in July.

Carys Vickers, Marketing and Communications Officer, New Writing North and 2024 winner said, “I can’t overstate how meaningful this has been to me – even aside from the training, the validation and recognition has been a huge confidence boost that has come at a perfect moment.”
