Mountain Print has invested in a Mimaki UVJ55-320 UV LED printer from CMYUK. By installing this 3.2m wide printer, the Portsmouth-based business has significantly reduced the outsourcing of its soft signage and mesh work. Additionally, it has acquired a silicon edged conveyor sewing machine, allowing all finishing processes to be completed in-house.

“This investment will allow us to lower our lead times and ensure the quality for our high-end clients is where it needs to be. It offers a greater ease of working and allows us to confidently say yes to a job, without having to go and get costs for anything that may change during production,” says Darrell Mountain, Director, Mountain Print.

CMYUK Open Day
Darrell attended a CMYUK open day event where he witnessed the impressive capabilities of the Mimaki UJV55-320 in action. “I was blown away by the printer’s speed, quality and productivity. Its ability to print 2 x 1.6m rolls at the same time is a brilliant feature that will be incredibly useful. Production wise it’s probably trebled our capacity,” he says.

The Mimaki UJV55-320 roll fed UV LED printer is very versatile, handling a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications including banners, retail displays, exhibition and event graphics, window graphics and more. It boasts a resolution of up to 1200 dpi and is available as 4-colour CMYK or 7-colour CMYKLcLmW. It also offers a high density print mode for front/backlit applications, plus an inline LED lightbox for backlit print inspection.

“We’d never used Mimaki’s before in-house and never used the Rasterlink RIP, but the training from CMYUK was fantastic. Martin Cole [CMYUK engineer] was super helpful. He went over and above for us. I can’t give him enough credit,” says Darrell.

Textiles
Darrell describes the relationship with CMYUK as perfect. “They check in all the time, and if I need anything, they are very responsive,” he says. The business also buys its textiles from CMYUK using products from the exclusive PVC-free Kavalan and UFABRIK ranges, available only through CMYUK in the UK and Ireland.

“The UFABRIK Black Back UV Textile is really high quality. We were printing a graphic on it for a gaming company and the result was absolutely immaculate. It’s also quite a thick material with a good amount of give, and is excellent for stretching around canvas wall flats, it hides all the seams. It’s just really good,” says Darrell.

As well as turbo charging productivity, the Mimaki UJV55-320 has enabled Mountain Print to begin producing lightboxes in-house, expanding its service roster. Says Darrell, “We started out as a logistics and installation company but began to offer printing in 2020. We’ve grown very quickly and the investment in the new Mimaki 3.2m printer has put us in a really good place for our next phase.”
